Meyer and Fassmer Building a New Research Ship

news-details

Meyer and Fassmer are building a New Research Ship for the Federal Government.

As part of a Europe-wide tender for the research shipbuilding METEOR IV by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the bidding consortium Meyer-Fassmer-Sonderschiffbau was awarded the contract in mid-December 2021.

The bidding consortium, consisting of the German shipyards Meyer-Werft GmbH & Co. KG and Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG, is building the successor ship for the research ship METEOR and the research ship POSEIDON, which has already been decommissioned. The successor building METEOR IV is designed for worldwide multifunctional and interdisciplinary research use, with a focus on the Atlantic. The METEOR IV will make an important contribution to national and international marine research, particularly in the areas of climate and environmental research.

Completion of the new building is scheduled for 2026.
